Maritime Research at the National Archives
Archivist Katie Dishman

Are you interested in maritime research and history? Then the federal government has a variety of material for you.

The National Archives regional office in Chicago has various documents available including records of the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Customs Service, and the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation. Also, there are admiralty cases from the federal court system, many of which feature ships and wrecks. If it's too cold to go boating, you may want to research some historic records nearby.

Katie Dishman is an archivist at the National Archives at Chicago. Previously she was an archivist at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, General Mills, and Anheuser-Busch. She has an M.A. in Public History, a Master of Library and Information Science, and a Specialist Certificate and is a Certified Archivist.
