General

  •  Approximately 20 members met at 6:30 at the 6th floor of the Helix Building, 310 S. Racine at Jackson.
  • Tonight's meeting was run by Jim Jarecki, with food provided by Joan Forsberg and Chet Childs
  • Joan, Chet, and John Loftus showed off their Halloween costumes in true UASC style !

  •  LOUP Meeting - Sunday November 4th. Chet Childs will speak on Komodo Indonesia in HD at Helix ( 8th Floor ). Doors open at 12:30, meeting at 1:00
  • LOUP-UASC HOLIDAY PARTY - Saturday December 1st at 6:30 P.M. Burnham Park Yacht Club, $30. Please make checks payable to LOUP and give them to Bob Gadbois by the November meeting. ( We may have to pay to park in the adjacent lot this year. :-( )
  • Our World Underwater - February 15-17 2008, Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont, IL. UASC will have a booth again this year. Visit the web site for full details.
  • Chicago Maritime Festival - Saturday Feb 23 at the Chicago History Museum.

New Business

  •  Howard Openlander compared visits to maritime museums on the west and east coasts.
  • Chet Childs showed slides of the Saint Mary's
  • The November speaker will be Maritime Historian John Lutz. Tom is a recipient of the Barkhausen Award for original maritime research.
  • NOVEMBER MEETING WILL BE ELECTIONS - COME EARLY, VOTE OFTEN !
  • Cris Kohl's new book, "The Great Lakes Diving Guide, Second Edition" is now out, with more than 600 pages and doubling the Chicago section from 16 to 31 pages long.

Guest Speaker

  •  Frederick H. Neuschel, author of "Lives and Legends of the Christmal Tree Ships" spoke about the Rouse Simmons and other Christmas Tree ships of the day, including some very interesting comparisons of fact versus common beliefs.

Other Business

  •  A number of UASC members retired to Riccobene's for further discussion. :-)
