Hey Everybody,
Sorry for the short notice, but the next UASC meeting is this Wednesday,
31 July, at the Chicago Maritime Society Museum, on the 6th floor of the
Helix / LifeStorage building, 310 S. Racine at Jackson. As usual, light
refreshments will start at 6:30, business at 7:00, and the main speaker
at around 8:00.
This month's speaker will be our very own John Gerty, speaking on the
Wooden Boat Show that was held recently at Mystic Seaport Museum in
Mystic, Connecticut. Mystic is one of the premier maritime museums in
the country. It has an active restoration and reproduction boatyard;
displays include docked steam and sailing ships; work boats; plus dozens
of buildings containing static displays of boats, models and historic
artifacts. The wooden boats which were the focus of the boat show
comprise vessels of all shapes and sizes, made by both professional boat
shops and individual builders. John's presentation will focus primarily
on the museum's holdings, but will also cover some of the other wooden
boats entered for the boat show.
If you have any items that you would like added to the agenda, please
let me know, particularly if you have materials to display on the screen
as part of the discussion.
I believe there is at least one and possibly two volunteers to help with
refreshments this month, but still some room for additional help, so if
you would like to help out with refreshments, either this month or some
other month, please contact Dan Kasberger,
Thanks, and hope to see you on Wednesday,
John
